Volunteering really helps the heart!

Volunteering has it's rewards!!!

This weekend was the MS walk at clove lakes park.  My girlie friend Gina asked if I wanted to come help out too.  So Glad I said yes.

When she told me she was coming at 5:45 am to get me ... I was like ... OH BOY! (Saturday morning me likey to sleepy)  But it was so worth it!

I think my feet look really huge next to hers!!!  LOL

We were the friendly people who signed everyone in.  It was nice to see such great support and even see some familiar faces.

There were so many groups of people who were walking for a special person in their life.  I really felt all the support from everyone as they were coming around the finish line.  They sported many different shirts to show support.

This crazy group wore green capes and funky headbands.  The men and woman alike.  The 2 orange capes were worn by the 2 people living with MS.
I figured out that the MS colors are orange and black!  Like pink is for breast cancer.  You get the point!!!

The wall of hope is filled with names and prayers!! SO cool and inspiring.

I had a really nice time and was really blessed!

It was a weekend of walks here I suppose.  My son Derek and his friends walked for the march of dimes.  They were representing their school.  It was nice to see the kids want to participate in something that they felt was for a cause!

Hope you all had a great weekend!!!

This one's for you!

A glimpse into my new place ...

Last time you were here, I showed some pictures of the outside of the house.
Today, I share some of the downstairs living space.

WARNING ... It is not exactly tidy!!!!

This is one side of the family room. (Before all my stuff)

And here it is AFTER all my stuff :)

Since the kitchen is not big enough for eating in ... I put my little table in the sunny corner here. So far I am liking it!  (We will see how long this lasts)

Ohhhhh Kayyyy, this is the center of the room!  Empty!!!!

And .... Not so empty :)

Computer central on the other side of the room.

Sooo, for this room so far, I have lots of ideas in my head meandering around.  It's almost going to explode.  Pinterest is killing me right now.  There are so many things I love and I am like a kid in a candy shop.  Ever get like that?  I don't know what to do.
I want to paint, but what color?  Hate the carpet, what to do? How should I arrange my photos? (I have many) Which piece of furniture should i put in this or that room?  What color should I paint this piece or that?  Ohhhhhh myyyyy!!!!

Here are some of my favorite ideas.  Hopefully I won't overload you like I am feeling right now.

I LOVE white and neutrals. ( all following images are from my pinterest board)

Bright and white

Clean and Classy

Gallery wall using photographs and free printables, white dresser

i love you room!

Sooo, now you see where I am heading don't you!
The possibilities are endless!

Tomorrow I will share my dining room pics and kitchen too!  See you then.

Feel free to let me know what colors or ideas you might think of :)

I'll be posting my progress as I go.  For now, it is quite cozy!

Can you dig it?  I can dig it!!!!!!
We even have a screened in porch out back!                                            With a little TLC, it's going to be great!

                                               Another view of the deck.

There you have it!  It's going to be great!  I just can't wait!  And, right in time for spring.  I can see the flowers already!!! (the ones in my head)

Hi

I've gone missing the past week or so!  Just wanted to say hi to everyone, feel like I am missing blogland as I have been busy crocheting away!  Haven't had much time for anything else.

Kids are off from school this week which is great.  Love sleeping in!  BUT, I have had a bunch of orders to fill!  Which is a good thing anyway.

My friend Sabrina went slipper crazy!  She ordered pairs for everyone in the family!
They are the most cozy things ever to put on your feet.  I purchased the pattern from Etsy.  You can find her awesomeness here. I have purchased many patterns from her and they are all worth it!  Super easy to follow and really cute in person.

I added slip resistant bottoms to them.  These slippers are slippery suckers without any grips.  I wouldn't want anyone breaking a leg on my account!!  I order this awesome sole material here.
Here's another order I just finished up as well ... for a newborn gift!

Don't you just love it?!!!!!!!  I do lol!   The hat and booties are a pattern I have had for a while from another shop.  Have to dig it out to find the link.  But the sweater was from a google search.  It was so easy to make.  I just changed the front by shaping it on an angle.  Sort of Kimono style.  The original pattern was open wide. I thought it would be warmer this way.  You can find the sweater pattern here.

That's baby Marcello.  Isn't he so precious?!!!  He's wearing the hat I made him!

Ok!!!! SO that's whats going on in my neck of the woods.  Today I am making a baby hat and bootie set for another order. When I finish that ... I am going to make something for me!!!!!!

Wanna see what?  I know you do!

This is the yarn I bought at my yarn shop.  Mushishi.  It's even fun just saying the name.  I am in love with this yarn and it will felt so nicely I am sure of it.
Thanks, mom!!!! ( she reads my blog and decided to get me a gift card to my FAV yarn shop!)

THIS IS THE PATTERN I AM GOING TO MAKE!!!!!!  It's Noni!  I love her patterns!  It's called the Cinch!
I am making the medium size.  Can't wait!  I'll keep you posted on my progress!

Big Girl Field trip

Now this is my idea of a fun day!!!!!  The Lion Brand yarn store in NYC.

Lion Brand Yarn Studio, NYC

Today, I decided at the last minute to take a ride into the city with my husband. (dropped those kids at school and ran out the door)

He has been traveling this week by express bus for some classes.  (the bus is awesome and comfy) Today was his last day, so I figured I would tag along and take the time to visit the Lion Brand Studio.  It was only a few blocks from where my hubby had to go and since he needed at least 2 hours there ... I KNEW I could spend that easily in the store. (Big smile on my face)
OH, can't forget to mention that here in NY the weather is CRAAAZY warm which really made my journey even better!

We had so much fun spending the morning together.  We stopped for coffee.

I was sooooo excited I was practically running there!

My very sweet husband walked me there.  He said to make sure I was safe!  OK, I grew up in NY ... do you really think I need a chaperon?  But still, it was nice to have him walk me there.
(and to take pictures for me)
Oh my, it's 9:50 am.  Open the doors and let me in!!!!!!!!  (they open at 10 am ... I was prompt)

Oh boy, look how cute, even the handles are covered in yarn!
Finally, the doors opened and they let me in.  I hope they didn't think I was some crazy stalker!
It's not like I have never been in a yarn store before, but I have been wanting to go to this one for so long.  I love seeing all the yarns gathered together and seeing all the different yarns worked up in patterns.
Why oh why does this make me so happy?  (giggle giggle)

Sooooo, I spent my time swooning over all the wonderful things in the store, asking the staff (who are really informative and knowledgeable) questions about workshops and trying to figure out which size circle needle to buy.
What did I buy you wonder?  Well, after all of that, I bought ........

A hat book, which by the way has some cute patterns, but what I loved the most about it is the charts in the beginning for crochet and knit hats.  Included are all the sizes from baby to adult with how many stitches to cast on/chain depending on the gauge.  That to me was worth it!
Okay, so I didn't buy any yarn.  Why?  Well ... I am a big fan of coupons lol.  At Michael's and AC Moore, the yarn is always on sale and you can use your coupons too!
One skein of thick and quick is almost 9$ in the Studio.  Today at Michael's, the same yarn is 2 for $10 and Vanna's choice is 2 for 5$.  If you're going to purchase a lot, well then the savings help.  However, If you are working on a project at the studio, they do require you to purchase the yarn there.  Fair enough, as this applies to any yarn shop I have been to.
FYI, I have the best yarn shop where I live in Staten Island.  The Naked sheep! If I am going to work on any project and need help, that's my go to place.   The owner Tracy is THE BEST!!!!!!!  Holler Tracy if you hear me!!!

So, there you have it!  My field trip was great!  I had fun and made a small purchase, got to see the store, got a schedule of classes and spent the morning with my husband.
All in all, it was fun.  If your ever in the neighborhood, it is most definitely worth a stop in!

I will be taking my daughter during her winter break on a field trip there too!  (she will have fun like me ... we think this is fun hahah)

One more picture.  Hope I didn't overload you with pics.
While walking to meet my husband ... I passed this beautiful old church which once was a night club called the limelight, and is now a little shopping mall.

Don't you love the red doors?

Happy Friday everyone!  Enjoy your weekend!

xoxo,
